Computers I’ve Owned
Computers I have owned:
Commodore 64. I used to write assembly code in 6502 using nothing but peek and poke, baby. I was leet. I didn’t know about assemblers. Well. I knew about them, I just didnt have one. Hahaha.
Commodore 128. Great machine. I wish there was more software for the faster 128 mode, and I wish I had some CP/M software to try out that Z80 CPU that sat there doing nothing.
Commodore Amiga 500 (with 20MB Hard Drive expansion unit and 2MB RAM!). I absolutely adore this machine. Of course, its horrible now. The hard disk spins up but it has horrible amounts of errors. I am looking for a SCSI drive to replace the XT drive thats in there - apparently the expansion unit could accept SCSI 1 drives.
Osbourne 386DX40 PC (before Osbourne went into liquidation). Windows 3.11. Ugh. Home built AMD486dx100 overclocked by my good self to 166Mhz. Oh man, that baby flew. Started experimenting with Linux and OS/2, back when Linux only had one distribution, SLS and the kernel had not even hit version 1.0 yet. OS/2 was OS/2 Warp beta, and a free download from various BBSs in Sydney at the cost of an international call.
Home built AMDK6 333Mhz, I think. Something like that. Ran Linux.
Several home built Athlon CPUs from 800Mhz up.
Powerbook G4 15″ Titanium 500Mhz 512MB RAM.
Powerbook G4 15″ Titanium 800Mhz 1GB RAM.
Powerbook G4 17″ Aluminium 1Ghz 1GB RAM.
Powerbook G4 17″ Aluminium 1.67Hz 2GB RAM.
Home built Athlon 64 3700 with 2GB RAM. Games machine.
Sun Blade 1000 donated by my good friend Kevin. Its currently being rebuilt with debian, though this is turning out to be a hard task because the debian boys have completely fucked SILO or something. As a side note, I have a working six-pack with 6 18GB drives in it. Whee.
Shuttle XPC with a 4800+ Athlon 64, 2GB ram, 2 x 150GB Raptors and a … 7800GT. Well, it was the best card I could afford at the time. Its a great machine. Plays WoW great! Have two AL2416W Acer widescreens with it too. Great setup.
Mac Pro with 2 x Quad Core 2.8Ghz XEONs, nVidia 8800GT and 16GB ram. I put the Raptors in it. Plays WoW even better, though I don’t play much now.
20″ iMac for the missus. She really likes it - and its nice and fast.
Mac Book Pro 17″ Aluminium with a Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz CPU and 3GB RAM. Current work machine. Awesome, really don’t seeing me replace this any day soon.
