Changing habits

in Personal

I’ve been in a kind of a rut for a while. Lots of bad habits set in and I need to change them or I think my health and my sanity will not last much into my 30’s. I guess its this whole human need to reinvent oneself every few years that makes life interesting.

To attack this, I’m changing as many of my bad habits that I can as possible.

  • Lack of sleep. I don’t get to sleep early enough, so I don’t wake up early enough, and I lose out on mornings. I now have to start work at 9am, so this good incentive to sort it out.
  • Messy desk. At work, my desk was a mess. I had crap all over it. Cables, books, whatever. I’ve since dumped EVERYTHING out of my desk draws and onto the floor, gone through it and thrown out everything I didn’t need.
  • With the early waking time, I will start studying more Japanese. I’ve got to the point where I can understand mostly whats going on but with the extra study I should be able to take it to the next level, as it were, in a year or so.
  • Exercise. I’m going to try and see if I can get an exercise bike. I know they’re not the best exercise, but short of swimming, which I’d much prefer to do, its the best one for being least impact on my joints. I’m quite heavy, even though I’m 6′2″, and always have been, and my knees and ankles hurt almost constantly.
  • Eat more sparingly. Less large meals at Bubba Gumps.
  • Blog more. Having a blog and not using it is a bad habit.

This article kinda sums up how I’m going to do this. I need to attack all these things at once and channel the energy into more positive habits which can actually help improve my life.
