Better Canon LIPS Drivers

in Tech Stuff

At work, we have a Canon LIPS-IVv driven printer. The printer itself is not supported under Mac OS X, and the Canon printer drivers from Canon’s site are … awful. They install all kinds of horrible shit onto your machine, crash, etc, and don’t print.

For a while, I have been using the foomatic and ghostscript renderers for Cups to print to this printer. Every time I re-install my machine, I have to set everything up again.

So, what the hell I thought – lets make an installer!

These drivers are provided as-is. I hope they are useful to some of you out there in the same situation as me.

If you have any problems with this package (its only been tested on my machine so far) then please let me know. It should work on anything from 10.2 and up, maybe earlier, but I just don’t know.

  1. Tech,

I just down loaded this driver and it works very well. Thanks for taking the time to post it and saving me hours of frustration.

Tried the driver with our LBP-2810 color laser. For some reason, it only prints black and white.

    • Considering that I made these drivers for 10.2 … I’m not surprised it might not work for colour.

No doubt the components in the package need to be updated; gostscript, the linuxprinting driver, etc.

I no longer have access to a LIPS powered printer so I don’t think I’ll ever be able to test colour for you, sorry.
