Moon Landing Hoax Rant

in Tech Stuff

So, I ranted a little today to Nigel about how much I despised Moon Landing Conspiracy Theorists, and he said “you should probably post that up”. So I will.

What kicked it off was that he said, “You really dislike it when someone questions that the moon landings happened, don’t you?”, or something to that effect.

His point being that having some level of skepticism is healthy and that being skeptical about the moon landings was just a healthy distrust of government that everyone should have.

Now, I don’t disagree that we should be distrustful of government in general, and we certainly shouldn’t take everything that the US Government says at face value, without a doubt. But I believe that NASA has been extremely candid about the Moon Landings, and there has been such overwhelming and convincing evidence that the Landings took place in the manner and times in which have been documented by them, that the fact that they took place cannot be questioned.

What might be questioned is what, exactly, happened. There might be gaps in the activities performed there, secret equipment installed or secret experiments performed for the US Government or the US Military, but as for the question, did they land on the moon when they said they did? Yes. Without a shadow of a doubt.

It makes my blood boil when people start listing all of the bullshit reasons why we (and yes, I’m aware I’m Australian, and therefore “we” might be a bit presumptuous to our American friends who are the ones that actually did all the work – but I’m using the “we” of the world here) didn’t land, or they try to weasel around the landings and say, “Oh yes, we landed but not on that exact day.”

Bullshit. Armstrong and Aldrin are fucking gods to me, giants who still walk among us, who bled and sweated and cried and clawed their way into the stars and walked on the Moon and brought us back the rocks to prove it. To say they didn’t land, is to call them liars, and to call all the men and women who helped them land on the moon and safely come back liars. These men and women, mind you, are kindred, fellow Engineers of an almost mythical stripe – Engineers that know how to build fucking spaceships!

And these snotty nosed little twerps who couldn’t design a fucking bolt on a spaceship have the hide to call them liars?! They landed on the moon! Every single possible hoax “proof” can be easily and scientifically explained away! There are photos of the tracks made in the lunar dust by the Aldrin and Armstrong while they roamed about the surface performing their experiments, for fucks sake. Every peice of evidence that we have today, agrees with the recorded history and the statements made by everyone involved.

Look, I can understand why people might want this to be a hoax. I mean, after the past 30 years of governments the world over, lying and trying to hoodwink the populace, its easy to be distrustful and to start to distrust everything, including recorded history.

But it was another time, and Armstrong and Aldrin are fucking heroes. Give them the respect they deserve. Stop this bullshit. Acknowledge the greatness that took them to the moon and will someday take us further. We went to the moon, I have no doubt. It’s not blind faith speaking here – this is trust in my ability to sort fact from fiction. And none of the facts presented by NASA have any hint of deception in them, or they would have been torn apart by the Scientific community years ago.

And no lie can ever be that perfect.

  1. Absolutely correct. A far from perfect lie, full of holes. It is perfectly reasonable for you to believe in historic authenticity of the event. We believe what we need to believe. However it is quite unreasonable to expect others of a different mind set to blindly accept the facts as presented.
As for using a knowledge of science as “proof” of competence in establishing a truth, fine and good as far as science goes, but we are talking politics here, and it may even be that a cleverly presented fake might render a “scientist” more vulnerable to deceit.
Also, run a survey……..question evry “scientist” you can find, by secret ballot, with a choice of answers, (a) yes we did (b) no we didn’t (c) dont know (d) I have an opinion which I do not choose to share…..(I like my job)…….. I think you will be astonished at how many c and d answers turn up.

You’re right either way the astronauts are heroes. If they were required to deceive by one of the most suspect administrations in modern history, for the greater good of the USA triumphing over godless communism, their sacrifice was even greater then we imagined

It beggars belief, that other than Apollo programne no human has ever ventured more than a few hundred miles from the Earth. Surely there must be data to be gleaned from a geostationery orbit expedition alone. When it is proved that someone survives a period of even a few days outside of the Earths MAGNETOSPERE…(think about it) the Apollo programne might seem nore credible.
With hindsight it is perfectly reasonable to question the astonishing success rate of the Apollo programne…given the historical record of space exploration with untried technology…………if something sounds to good to be true, then it probably is!!!!
Your lofty disdain for those expressing an alternate view, and your emotive derision do nothing to commend you as a rational reference.Believing something to be true because one “wants it to be true” is an act of faith……and probably fits into the category of magical thinking.
